Luton & District Model Boat Club

Club Meetings

The Club meets regularly on the second Monday of every month. During the summer months this normally takes the form of an evening  sail held at the lake in Wardown Park, Luton. During the autumn and winter months, usually starting with the AGM in september, the meetings are held at the Bushmead Community Hub on the Bushmead Estate, Luton.

The Evening Sailing sessions in the park normally start at around 6pm and finish around 9pm. This gives an opportunity for members whose boats have lighting features to show them off as the evenings get darker. For these meetings it is usual for parking to be allowed on a taped off grassed area adjacent to the sailing compound, unfortunately this is not permitted if the ground is soft due to rain. Should any models get marooned for any reason we can always use the rescue dinghy for recovery. A small salvage fee is normally charged for this exercise.Meetings in the autumn and winter months take place at the Bushmead Community Hub, Luton. The Hub is off Hancock Drive on the Bushmead Estate which is just off the A6 out of Luton in the direction of Bedford. Postcode is LU2 7SF. Meetings start at 7.30pm prompt and finish at 9pm. The meetings usually consist of two parts. Firstly we have reports from the Club Secretary and the Club President on the previous months activities and future events, followed by a general discussion.

The second part of the meetings vary from month to month and consists of talks by members or invited guests on a variety of subjects of interest to modellers. These include demonstrations of modelling equipment and techniques, photosessions of members models etc. It is also usual for members to bring along to the meetings, models currently being built or recently finished for discussion and advice from other members. The Club AGM is in September when the Officers of the Club are elected or re-elected as appropriate. We also have a Christmas meeting every year in December for members and guests, which is usually a fish and chips supper, when a good time is had by all.
